Jorge Rodriguez highlights Venezuela’s sovereignty while pursuing new U.S. diplomatic and energy ties, stressing mutual respect between the countries.

The President of Venezuela’s National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, has unequivocally reaffirmed the Bolivarian Government’s full control over its national sovereignty, even as it actively forges new diplomatic and energy relations with the United States.

These evolving ties are grounded in principles of mutual respect and collaborative efforts, aimed at fostering a common good for both nations, Rodriguez stated during an interview, in which he explained the guidelines of Bolivarian foreign policy.

Rodriguez conveyed these developments through his Telegram account, following an interview with U.S. journalist Robert Stephen Schmitt of Newsmax television.

During the interview, the Venezuelan legislator delved into the core tenets of the Bolivarian foreign policy, outlining its strategic direction in the current geopolitical landscape, but highlighting the unevokable self-determination of the country. His remarks underscore a proactive approach by Venezuela to engage internationally while safeguarding its national interests and independence.

According to the Ministry for Communication and Information portal, Rodriguez highlighted that these emerging links with the United States are designed to promote enhanced cooperation and mutual benefit, with a particular focus on the crucial hydrocarbon sector.

This emphasis on energy collaboration reflects a pragmatic recognition of shared economic interests, potentially paving the way for a more stable and productive relationship in an area historically fraught with tension, amid U.S. sanctions.

The Venezuelan official stressed that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela maintains an open-door foreign policy, but critically, this policy is always predicated on the recognition of its legitimate authorities and an unwavering respect for the national self-determination of the country as a foundational principle for any international engagement, ensuring that diplomatic overtures do not compromise the nation’s integrity.

In this sense, the strengthening of Venezuela’s foreign policy ties with Washington is viewed as a vital pathway to identify and implement joint solutions within the international arena, without, as the parliamentarian underscored, compromising the Republic’s integrity.

This strategic approach reaffirms the Venezuelan State’s profound commitment to defending its national sovereignty and advancing a diplomacy of peace within this new and evolving scenario of strategic cooperation.

During the comprehensive interview, Rodriguez also addressed the ongoing parliamentary discussion surrounding a proposed Amnesty Law. He indicated that the legislation, which has already received unanimous approval in its first discussion, is being actively promoted to encourage the return of all sectors of the opposition residing abroad.

This initiative represents a significant domestic policy move, seeking to foster national reconciliation and potentially reintegrate political actors into Venezuela’s civic life under legal frameworks.

Furthermore, when he was questioned about a military attack perpetrated by United States forces on January 3, and the illegal kidnapping of President Nicolas Maduro and the First Combatant Cilia Flores, Rodriguez described that imperialist action as “very traumatic.” However, he highlighted that the incident was met with “great maturity” by what he characterized as an “incredibly mature” country.

Rodriguez’s comments reflected Venezuela’s steadfast position on alleged external aggressions, emphasizing the nation’s resilience and capacity to navigate challenging international circumstances with a firm stance on its sovereignty and dignity.
